Ms. Khoiriah, who has given her heart to the world of education, is a science teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience. Currently, she teaches at SMP Negeri 32 Bandar Lampung, Lampung Province, Indonesia. She dedicates herself to helping students with low motivation to learn by exploring characteristics of each student. For example, she gives an opportunity for her students with low literacy skills to practise by writing poetry and short essays. These creative and fund activities have helped increasing the student’s motivation to learn. She has a passion for teaching science. She recognizes that science process skills are very important because they are one of the potential life skill competencies for solving everyday problems. These skills are necessary for her students to face complexities of global challenges for living in the 21st century. She believes that science process skills provide opportunities for students to find information and develop their own concepts through experiential learning. With this process of learning, students shall develop creative thinking competencies.
Ms. Khoiriah encourages her students to participate in many science- related competitions such as Science Olympiads, science poetry and short stories. She said that it is her happiness as a teacher to guide students to achieve their success. Currently, she is pursuing her doctoral degree in Science Education. She believes that this will help her to improve her competency as a science educator.
