Ms. Filomena do Costa
“Do small things with great love”
School Address: Saint Miguel Arcanigo, Hatolia Same Municipality

Ms. Filomena is a teacher with a strong will. She is currently a teacher at Saint Miguel Arcanjo in Hatolia-Same Municipality, teaching Indonesian. She started her teaching career as a volunteer teacher. After graduating from high school, she wanted to continue her studies at a university but could not do so because she had no funding support. Her teacher suggested that she work as a teacher to earn money so that she could support herself and go to college. When she started teaching, she fell in love with it, so she continued to be a teacher after she graduated from Cristal University, Faculty of Education in 2008. She said that the reason she teaches Indonesian is because Indonesian gives her students opportunities to get jobs and continue their studies.
Ms. Filomena comes from a family of single mothers. This inspires her to help other children who are abandoned and in need of care. She spent her time after school, taking care of young children in the village by going from house to house and taking care of them because their parents had left them. Some children were left alone because their parents went to work in the field and were too poor to take good care of them. In 2020, she took a loan from a bank to build a home to care for poor and abandoned children called, “Mother Teresa Home Care” or “One Heart Full of Love Patron St. Teresa de Calcutta” The home now cares for children, ranging in age from 3 to 15 years old. She teaches at school during the day and takes care of the children at “Mother Teresa Home Care” in the evening and on weekends. She intends to take care of these children until they grow up and can take care of themselves. She organizes charity activities to raise funds for food and supplies for the children at the Home care center. She wants these children to have good opportunities in their lives, learn computer skills, and have more exposure to the world.
