Mrs. Hay Chakriya

“ I like sharing knowledge. I try to teach students that mathematics is important for technology, science, engineering and life.”

School Address: Khave Village, Khave Commune, Samrong District, Takeo, Cambodia

Mrs. Hay Chakriya is a mathematics teacher at Sok An Samrong High School in Cambodia. She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from Angkor Khemara University, Cambodia.

Ms. Chakriya was born into a poor farmer family with eight siblings. Due to her family’s economic situation, her older sibling cannot go to school, but they all encourage the younger ones to continue school. When she was young, her dream was to become a teacher. Her father, who was a teacher and a school supervisor, encouraged her to go to school. He is her inspiration to be a teacher.

After high school, Ms. Chakriya received a scholarship to continue her bachelor degree at a university in information technology. She was very determined and committed to following her dream, so she applied to be a teacher instead of taking the scholarship. Her teaching career began in 2011 as a high school teacher.

She believes that to be a good teacher, one should keep improving their knowledge, be flexible, and be innovative in teaching. Her teaching methodology is a student-centered approach focusing on understanding students’ conditions and supporting them. She applies STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in her teaching. She also uses various technologies and teaching materials to capture students’ interest and enhance her teaching process. She constantly looks for new resources online to help her students learn. She also wrote and published many books in mathematics. In 2022, Mrs. Hay Chakriya received the Samdach Techo Sen Award for the Best Teacher in Cambodia.
