Md. Shafiul Islam

“Nobody can teach anybody anything. A teacher can only make students think. Only a good teacher and his pen change the world.”

School Address : Chakenayet Model Government. Primary School,Naogaon Sadar, Naogaon Bangladesh

Md. Shafiul Islam has taken teaching as his vow and penance. He believes that being a teacher is the only profession that can change the thinking processes, living styles, and activities of human beings. He recognises that tolerance and patience are key strengths in teaching.

He also understands that students lives extend beyond the four walls of a classroom, and a healthy body is a healthy mind. Thus, he regularly visits students homes to understand their living conditions. He sees the poor living conditions of his students, so he reaches out to help them by providing reading lights and tables for proper study spaces and equipping them with educational materials and some necessities for learning. During parent meetings, he raises awareness of the parents about nutrition and healthy food for their children, encouraging balanced food at school. He wants his students to have healthy bodies so it will lead to a healthy mind.

He initiated activities using smartphones as teaching and learning tools for both students and parents so that they use smartphones to benefit real-life situations. He creates video lessons designed for students’ self-paced learning, so they can watch at home in their leisure time. and use smartphones productively. He uses ICT-based activities with his students and equips

them with various ICT tools, including Microsoft Office applications, PowerPoint presentation skills, and Scratch programming. During the COVID-19, he conducted online classes through Facebook Live, Google Meet, Zoom, and YouTube so that his students continued their studies.

He organises role plays in school based on different subjects of textbooks so that the students have hands-on experiences and acquire human qualities such as patience, tolerance, forgiveness, diligence, magnanimity, transparency, and accountability, which they can apply to their future lives and function in society.

Md. Shafiul Islam wants to have a positive impact on his students’ lives. As the proverb states, “It takes a whole village to raise a child.” He works tirelessly with parents, colleagues, school committee members, and his supervisors to provide quality education for the students. His dedication has earned him awards from the Ministry of Education for his significant contributions.
