Vietnam is ready for school reopening with disinfectant tunnels built by students to combat COVID-19.

Mr. Surachai Dingsawad, an educational affairs committee of the Princess Maha Chakri Award (PMCA) reported preparations of schools in Vietnam to reopen while COVID-19 continues to spread.

Deputy Director of Department of Education and Training in Lao Cai Province, Mrs. Trần Thị Thuỳ Dung, who was the 2015 PMCA awardee from Vietnam elaborated about new policy to welcome back students with  precautions necessary to prevent the potential spread of COVID-19 in school settings. The precautions are such as wearing masks at all time, measuring temperatures, supplying hand sanitizers, regular disinfecting of school facilities, social distancing, and promoting public health within schools.

Mrs. Dung said that students also play an important role to support prevention and control of the COVID-19 spreading such as the lower secondary students in S, Lao Cai Province. The students have set up disinfectant tunnels to disinfect whole body before entering the school. The tunnels aim to reduce the COVID-19 transmission and boost confidence among students in their school returns.

The tunnels consists of 3 entrances. In each entrance, there are 6 nozzles to spray disinfectant, infrared lamps, and transparent curtains. The temperatures of the tunnels are set to sterilize the novel coronavirus. The disinfectants used is certified by The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

Mrs. Dung explained that the Số 1 school disinfectant tunnel is a model for many school to replicate. Incorporating this invention and those precaution measures will prevent the potential spread of COVID19 in school settings.
