The 2015 Princess Maha Chakri Awardee from Indonesia developed mobile application for tracing students’ home quarantines to limit COVID-19 transmission.


Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia is another country that has issued a temporary school closure to limit the virus transmissions among students. The Indonesian authorities has taken further preventive measures for safety of the students by ordering home-quarantine nationwide.

Mr. Herwin Hamid, the 2015 PMCA awardee from Indonesia, is science teacher and head of computer lab at Junior High School Kendari. He has been recognized and awarded from his continuous efforts in using smart phones as inclusive education tools and developing numerous learning materials in Physics.

During the outbreak, Mr. Hamid has dedicated his time to develop monitoring tools to help his students to stay safe and comply with home-quarantine measures. Finally, he has developed a mobile phone application called “Attendance”, which requires students to check in with him 3 times a day.

 

 

The students can download the application and take their selfie photo. The application will automatically detect their locations. Therefore, Mr. Hamid can keep tracks of his students to ensure their safety and increase their motivation to comply with home-quarantine order by earning extra scores.
